Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of
trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.

Who We Are

Our Mission

The Idaho Character Council's mission is as straightforward as it is important:  "To work together as citizens to encourage good character in ourselves, each other, our families and our communities."

Our Plan for Achieving Our Goals
The Idaho Character Council is committed to encouraging good character qualities in each citizen of our community. Each month, one character quality will be highlighted through public service announcements, endorsing organizations, media coverage and other means directed to each citizen. At the same time, the Character Council will encourage all segments of our community to support the same character quality among its members. The Character Council wishes to encourage all organizations focusing on good character development, and to offer them materials, trainers, consultants and other resources both to them and others wishing to join the community-wide effort.

What Is Character?
Character is the composite of one's character qualities. A character quality is a habit, a usual pattern of thinking, speaking or acting. Good character qualities, like any habit, can be developed by making decisions and taking actions that reinforce that habit.

What Are the Benefits of Good Character?
Good character benefits all people, and in turn their friends, family and community.

  1. Helps individuals reach their full potential
  2. Enhances growth in personal acceptance, confidence and satisfaction
  3. Increases productivity and accomplishments
  4. Improves relationships
  5. Benefits and encourages others
  6. Contributes to success

What Is a City, County, or State of Character?
Governors, County Commissioners, Mayors, City Councils and other community leaders across America and throughout the world are voting to become Character Communities. Leaders representing each sector of the community then form a committee to design ways of encouraging good character within their jurisdiction. The result is a community consensus to live by time-honored and universally recognized character qualities.

Our Vision

Idaho will become a community of good character where people work together to ensure that individuals and families are strong, homes and streets are safe, education is effective, businesses are productive and citizens care for one another. The Idaho Character Council invites you to join the community-wide initiative to encourage good character.

Our Board and Council are working together to help Idaho become a community of character.
